Students in middle school experience fully departmentalized instruction. They change classes for each of the five core areas: Religion, Math, Science, Social Studies and ELA. All middle school students participate in the Science Fair and prepare a research paper for ELA in collaboration with the Media Specialist.
Beginning in 6th grade, students are placed in differentiated math classes: grade-level, compacted (leading to Math 1 in 8th grade) and compacted/plus (leading to Math 2 in 8th grade). In Grade 6, students can choose a musical elective (2x per week) from: Band, Chorus, Guitar, or Orchestra, an arts elective (1x per week) from: Art or Drama, and a foreign language elective (1x per week) from: Latin, German, French or Spanish using Rosetta Stone or teacher-directed Spanish. All students will have PE.
In Grades 7-8, students select from: Band, Chorus, Guitar, Orchestra, Art or Drama which meet 2x per week. They also select a foreign language elective (2x per week) from: Latin, German, French or Spanish using Rosetta Stone or teacher-directed Spanish. All students will have PE.
All classrooms are equipped with Smartboards. All students are provided with a chromebook that they bring to every class. Students use technology as a tool for collaboration, and presentation. Teachers use technology to facilitate small group work, adaptive practice, Google classroom, and Discovery Education Techbook for Social Studies and Science.
